Academic and Personal Counseling

Role of the Counselor:

The School Counselor promotes the school as a caring community that is attractive to students, teachers and parents. The counselor helps students to recognize and communicate their own feelings, to listen for and be sensitive to the feelings of others, to be responsible for their own actions, and to solve problems and conflicts when they arise.

Benefits for Students and Parents:

The counselor works directly with students in individual and group counseling sessions so students may:

  • achieve success in school
  • establish the use of effective study skills
  • adjust to a new school/grade level environment
  • build positive feelings toward self and others
  • develop skills in interacting and communicating with others
  • identify and accept their own (and others') strengths and weaknesses
  • recognize the causes and effects of their actions
  • become responsible for their own behavior and choices
The counselor assists parents in the following aspects:
  • Understanding their children's progress in school
  • Becoming actively involved in their children's life at school
  • Developing realistic goals with their children
  • Exploring strategies to motivate their children
