LCS Distance Learning in the Elementary School Any circumstance that would require a closure of the LCS Campus represents not only a disruption in normal daily routines, but may also create additional stress for students, parents, and teachers. In light of this, the first few days of distance learning will be focused on: Relationships and Connecting with each other Simplicity and Success Empathy We wish to reconnect students and teachers and ensure everyone knows how to access the online tools we will be using in the upcoming weeks. Elementary School In Elementary School, homeroom teachers communicate regularly with parents through their weekly email newsletters. This process will continue during online learning. We ask parents to read these newsletters regularly, and communicate directly with the teacher if there are any questions.
Technology Platforms The following platforms will be used to post assignments, and are where students will upload the majority of their work. These platforms also give teachers and teaching assistants the ability to offer feedback on each child's progress. - ECC - G2 will post assignments on Seesaw
- G3-5 will post assignments on Google Classroom
- ES Specialists will post assignments on Seesaw
Additional platforms such as Zoom, Freckle, IXL, Symbaloo, Big Universe, BrainPop, Epic, and Educreations may also be used in certain grade levels. The balance between homeroom and specialists: To make sure we balance the different subjects, HR teachers provide activities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and Specialists provide activities for Tuesday and Thursday. Planning: Classroom teachers will have Zoom meetings and "virtually" plan learning together. The PYP Coordinator will lead these team meetings. Student Feedback: As teachers and students are working in different time zones, we are committed to providing feedback within a 24 hour window. Student Expectations and Communication with Families: Children in Grades 1-5 are expected to be engaged in distance learning each day and, based on individual circumstances, parents will be requested to communicate with the teacher if this is not possible. If families are not responding to teachers, the principal will reach out to the family.
ECC has a more flexible plan, offering a range of activities that are optional. Check-in with families regularly to make sure to remain in contact. In Elementary, we have additional support from the following individuals ES Counselor The Counselor will be available to support the social and emotional wellbeing of all students. The Counselor will also support teachers in developing wellness activities for students.
ES Librarian The ES Librarian will join class Seesaw and Google class accounts to support and connect with students. The librarian will also be a part of grade level team meetings, supporting teachers with online resources.
EAL and Learning Support Teachers The Elementary Support Services Team will participate in grade level team meetings and continue to consult with Homeroom teachers. They will continue to support identified students by adding accommodations and sometimes modifying the online learning experience. They will provide parents (caretakers) with specific tasks and lesson plans that will address the student's specific learning and English acquisition needs. Teaching Assistants Teaching Assistants will offer feedback to students online, and continue to reach out and build relationships online (written, video or voice recordings).
