The Right to be free club was started by Mr. Alex's class 3C of 2014 after we learned about child labour in UOI and wanted to take action to help raise awareness and help fight child labour in Ghana. We partnered up with a local organization called, Right To Be Free, led by Eric Peasah, who works to rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate children rescued from child labor and trafficking. Here is what we have been up to this year so far:

This year on Thursday the 10th of September 11 children from the RTBF club were invited to LCS to have fun, play games, and partner up to do some art together with LCS student, guided by Mrs. Rima Fakhry. We shared our experiences with our partners and made meaningful artwork to show our emotions and our perceptions of freedom. We had so much fun meeting these kids. Through this art workshop, we learned about each other and found out that we had more things in common than we realized! We will be holding an auction to sell our joint artwork in order to raise money for Right To Be Free so that they can rescue and support more children!

Last school year, the RTBF club started a campaign, called 5 For Freedom (http://righttobefree.org/5-for-freedom-campaign.html). The aim was to raise money for a boy called Senyo, who needs spinal reconstruction surgery because of injuries he got while working as a child laborer on Lake Volta. Senyo is now in hospital preparing for his operation!

We are still working to support him so that he can have the rehabilitation he will need after his operation. On Saturday, September 20, the RTBF club arranged a reunion for Senyo and his family to meet again for the first time since Senyo's rescue. Senyo's two brothers were also recently rescued and the brothers were so happy to see each other for the first time in years. We all played, had a drum circle, and ate lunch together at Mmofra Place. It was so nice to see Senyo reunite with his family, and to see the way Mr. Eric could make Senyo happy when he was feeling shy!
