How to Submit a Website News Story
At Lincoln Community School, the news, updates, and calendar items we publish on our website are a weekly group effort – parents, students, teachers, and administrators send us their information and photos for us to organize, edit, and publish.
The communications team is always looking for stories from our community that we can feature on the school site and our weekly Friday newsletter, The Link.
Here’s what you should know about submitting stories for inclusion on our website. . .
First, there is no special deadline for submitting stories, photographs, or artwork. Simply send it to our e-mail address (email@example.com) and we will take it from there.
1. All the news that fits
We make every effort to publish all of the stories, photographs, and information that readers send us so long as they are relevant to our primary audience – parents, students, and staff of LCS. Sometimes, if timeliness is not an issue and space is tight, we hold stories and photographs for later release. These stories are enjoyed by our parent community in our weekly Friday newsletter.
2. Spelling conventions
Even among writers whose native language is English there are many flavors – many flavours – when it comes to spelling preferences. Our practice will be to go with the spelling supplied by the writer. If you want to write about your organisation we will go with that; same thing if you want to tell us about your organization.
3. Sending digital file photographs or artwork
Regular correspondents already know that we do not favor exotic file formats. For readers who understand digital file-talk, we prefer files with extensions of .jpg, .tif, or .png. We cannot accept photographs with poor resolution (a good reference is file size – any file below 500 KB is suspect in our eyes). We love to receive well-lit and well-composed photos that feature bright smiles, strong action, and/or engaging subjects. Please make sure the photograph highlights the central point of the story that you send us.
If you have an event or activity that you'd like help photographing, our staff photographer may be able to help you. Send a query email to (firstname.lastname@example.org) with a description of the activity, the date, the time, and the location of the event.
