Joetta Appiah: a journey to the White House
Joetta Appiah, LCS Class of 2020
My name is Joetta Appiah, a proud 2020 graduate of LCS. I recently completed my academic journey at Marymount University with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Political Communications. Reflecting on my college years, I’ve been fortunate enough to embark on some transformative internships that have paved my path into politics.
My first political Internship began in the summer of 2023 when I joined the IT team in the Executive Office of the President of the U.S. During this internship my tasks included developing and maintaining critical applications for government staffers and conducting market research for new applications, this role was both challenging and enriching. I enjoyed my work with the IT department however it has been a dream of mine to work for the first black female Vice President of the United States. I decided to turn this dream into a reality, I researched what opportunities were available and applied for the communications Internship in the Office of the Vice President.
This shift marked a pivotal chapter in my career. During my four months with the Vice President’s office, especially amidst the buzz of the campaign year, I engaged deeply with the press and communication operations. As I transition from an intern to a full-time staffer, continuing as a Communications Assistant for the Vice President of the US, I am excited about the future. To all current and future LCS students, I share my journey to highlight how dedication and passion can shape your career. Each application you submit, each late night you invest in your studies, and each effort you make towards a meaningful objective, brings you one step closer to your aspirations. Hard work and perseverance are your most reliable tools. I am excited to see where my path leads, potentially even to public office, as I continue to dedicate myself to learning and contributing to our community. Remember, your potential is boundless with commitment and effort.
