From the LCS Film Festival to International Award Winners

Empowering student directors to make multiple films, learn multiple skills, and be able to communicate with a variety of artists is what makes them good leaders.
Much like LCS’s school value of “The more we do together, the more we achieve”, many independent and professional films are an intentional collaboration of different artists. Artists of drama, camera, lighting, costume, animation, sound, music, special effects and editing all came together under the guidance of someone they trust: the director.
Our MPY Design teachers introduced our students to the International Student Shorts Online Film Festival, which originated at the PORG School in Prague and is a free Student International Film Festival (that started as an IB/CAS project) has been student operated since COVID and whose judges include film industry professionals.
To determine which films would represent Lincoln Community School, we hosted an internal film festival for our students to tell their unique stories of living in Ghana, sharing their voices for environmental causes, and entertaining us with doing what’s right. LCS families, leadership, teachers & classmates celebrated their student directors both digitally and in person in Spring of 2025 at the LCS Film Festival Awards. During the student directors’ panel, they reflected on what they had learned about the filmmaking process and about themselves when making their group art in video form.
Our student directors then submitted their films in several categories to the International Student Shorts Online Film Festival, achieving several awards and receiving great feedback from the judges.
