When we connect, we thrive
SWIM FOR SUSTAINABILITY – A Personal Project & Fundraising Event
Thea Sivan, class of 2028
In Ghana, many plastic items wash ashore, causing significant harm to the country’s marine life.
Being a swimmer I have always had a deep passion for the ocean, so by channeling my love for swimming into something bigger than myself and by combining these two passions I wanted to create a product for my personal project that also supports the environment.
With this purpose in mind, I decided to plunge into the Swim for Sustainability swim meet, fundraising for the incredible team at Meyakoo Ghana, raising funds to help reach their donation goal for cleaning Labadi Beach in Ghana.
I am thrilled and humbled to announce that, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our community, we managed to raise 4,450 Ghana Cedis for Meyakoo and also raise over 600 cedi for the school swim team!
This sum is more than just a number. For Meyakoo Ghana, an organization dedicated to connecting global donors to do many social works in Africa, this means tangible impact. Specifically, it means more tools, more resources, and a stronger ability to protect the very environments that inspire us.
This swim was more than a fundraiser; it was a personal project born from a lifetime of respecting the water. Every stroke was a reminder of why we do this—for the communities who depend on these ecosystems and also for the future of our shared blue planet.
A heartfelt thank you to every single person who volunteered, donated, shared our story, and cheered from the shore. You are the true champions of this cause. Together, we are proving that every action, no matter how small, can create a ripple of positive change.
