Run For A Cure Africa 2025: A Student’s Perspective on Service Learning

Vrish Bundhun (Class of 2027)

Being part of RFCA this year was an unforgettable experience that reminded us that every step counts, both on the track and in our journey toward creating positive change in the world.

This year’s Run For A Cure Africa 2025 (RFCA) event at Lincoln Community School (LCS) was a powerful reminder of how collective action can create lasting impact. RFCA brings together students, staff, and community partners to raise awareness for breast cancer screenings, and to support patients across Africa.

As one of the student representatives, alongside Jiwon, I had the privilege of helping organize and support this initiative, which truly captured the essence of our school’s values.

It was enlightening to see how different departments across LCS, including Security, Advancement, Marketing, and Ms. Lesley Tait, our Head of School, came together with the RFCA Ghana team, Ghana Athletics, and of course, LCS students, to create a meaningful and impactful event. Witnessing this collaboration brought one of our school’s values to life: “The more we do together, the more we achieve.

Being part of this experience was incredibly rewarding. It showed us that even as students, our contributions can have a real and lasting impact. The atmosphere during the run was truly uplifting, as volunteers, staff, and students cheered passionately at the finish line. Seeing our community unite around a common goal of awareness, encouragement, and compassion was both inspiring and humbling.

For us, the event was not just about raising funds or completing a run. It was about connection, empathy, and the power of shared purpose. It also highlighted how LCS provides students with valuable opportunities to learn, lead, and connect, both within our school community and beyond. RFCA gave us the chance to put another of our values into action: “Don’t just tell me how it’s done. Let me try.

Overall, being part of RFCA this year was an unforgettable experience that reminded us that every step counts, both on the track and in our journey toward creating positive change in the world.
