Basketball Invitational

Following our success at the WAISAL swimming competition the next sport in the season is basketball with the WAISAL part of that competition coming up this weekend.  Our basketball players have been hard at work both practicing and playing against other local teams.  Competitive games mainly take place as one off games usually on a Friday afternoon but two weeks ago, LCS held an invitational tournament for some schools in Accra.

LCS fielded three teams. Varsity and junior varsity boys teams played as well as a girls team.  The competition began on the Friday evening (19th January) and finished the next day in the early evening.  Unfortunately, one of our key varsity players was injured during Friday’s games and was unable to continue.  This may have contributed to the junior varsity team over taking the varsity team and ending up making the final.  The girls team played well all weekend ending up a respectable third place.  The final boys game was a hard fought match with some breathtaking three pointers scored by LCS but in the end it was not enough to win the game.

The boys JV team did win the spirit of the game award which was voted on by all the teams showing the LCS commitment to our value of ‘whatever happens, it’s what you do next that matters’.

The basketball teams are currently in Senegal attending the WAISAL event this weekend.  Watch out on our social media for updates including our new LCS athletics instagram account @ lcsghana_athletics.
