ECC Parents Visit the Elementary Library

ECC Parents Visit the Elementary Library
-By Jane Wallace ES Librarian

In September, ECC parents were invited to the Elementary Library to meet Ms. Ana, Mr. Emmanuel and Ms. Jane. They had a short tour of the library and explored the picture story book, and nonfiction book sections that their children love to borrow and read. Parents browsed the shelves and checked out some books to read with their children at home.

We discussed how to support young readers at home, with parents sharing some great strategies that worked for them. Parents shared their children’s love of being read to, sometimes asking for the same book again and again. “And can you read it just like my teacher does, please?”

Ideas to promote reading with young children that we talked about included having a daily reading time for everyone in the family; talking about books and asking questions; and reading print in the environment. And even though your child can read, they still love it when a parent reads to them.

If you would like to borrow books, but cannot come onto campus, please contact Ms. Jane (jwallace@lincoln.edu.gh) or Mr. Emmanuel (emensah@lincoln.edu.gh) to learn more.
